(Michelangelo)

Michelangelo was one of the most accomplished artists from the (Reniassance). His most known works are: (The Last Judgement) and the Pieta and David. He was experienced in many types of medium including painting,( architecture,) sculptures and writing poetry.

He is the most documented artis’s of the sixteenth century. He would be the first person who’s biography was finished when he was alive.

His full name was Michelangelo di Lodovicio Buonarroti. His nationality was (Italian. )He was born in March,6th 1475 in Arezzo in Caprese (Tuscany.) He died on February,6th 1564. He was eighty eight years old.

His family were known as bankers but for Michelangelo, he would have a different destiny. His father (Lodovico di leanardo di Buonarroti di simony) held a few government positions. At the time of Michelangelo’s birth, his family moved to (Florence )were Michelangelo was raised.( His mother) had been ill for quite sometime and died when Michelangelo was seven years old.

In the town o f(Settignano,) his father owned a marble rock quarry and a farm in witch he tended to. Michelangelo began studying grammar but his attention was not for grammer, but for on painting and preferred to be in the company of other artist’s or like minded people. When he turned thirteen, his talent began to blossom under the close supervision of painter (Domenico Ghirlandaio). He attended the academy with the Medici. During these years, he made the reliefs of (“Madonna of the stairs)” and the “ (Battle of the Centars.)”

In 1494, The court of the Medici were expelled from Florence while Florence spiraled into turmoil. The Medici moved to(Venice) and then to (Bolognia). In 1494, the situation of political upheaval had softened so Michelangelo returned to his boyhood home. He then returned to work for the Medici. He spent six months in Florence. During this that time, he worked on two small statues. (The figures of child Saint John the Baptis)t and a Sleeping cupid. The Medici asked Michelangelo to doctor this up so it looked as if buried and come out of the dirt so it would sell for more. The person that the statue was sold to discovered it was a fraud but thought I so beautiful that the man invited Michelangelo to (Rome).

In June, 25th 1946 Michelangelo arrived at Rome at the tender age of twenty one. His first project there under the employment of Cardinal ( Raffaele Riario) was an oversized statue of the Roman god (Bacchus). The statue though was rejected by the cardinal and gave it to the banker Jacopo Galli.

In November, 1497 , One of his famous works was (“The Pieta)” was to be created during the following year. Around this time, It was rumored in Rome that Michelangelo fell in love with a poet named “Vittoria colona Marquise of Pescora. From 1499-1501, Michelangelo returned to Florence again after the renaissance priest and the then leader of Florence were excecuted in1498. In 1505, Michelangelo returned to Rome and was commissioned by (Pope Julius the second )to build the popes tomb.

Under the patronage of the pope , Michalangelo had to briefly stop doing the project he was doing for the pope and finish numerous other tasks. Because of this, he worked on it for forty years and never finished it. During the same time, he painted the famous (Sistine chapel) witch took four years to complete 1508-1512. The Sistine chapel had a theme represented the creation and demise of mankind. The famous painting included over three hundred characters that were Gods creation of earth, the creation of mankind and there downfall away from God. On the painting are the( creation of Adam and Eve,)( Nohas flood,) The( prophets of Isaiah) and Sybil.

Michelangelo was also offered another proposal , this time for a family funeral chapel for the (Medici )witch drained up most of Michelangelos time from the fifteen twenties to the fifteen thirties. In fifteen twenty seven, the citizens of Florence cast out the Medici and restored the republic. The invasion of the city ensued , Michelangelo went to Florence to man the fortifications from fifteen twenty eight to fifteen twenty nine. Michelangelo left Florence for the final time in the mid fifteen thirties. The fresco of “The last judgment “ on the alter wall of the( Sistine chapel )was commissioned by( Pope Clement) the seventh who died there soon after. Paul the third contributed to seeing that Michelangelo began and completed the project. The appearance and showing paintings with genitals began with Michelangelo witch were quite controversial for the time. Some church officials ordered the covering of genitals so they would not upset female royalty. Around fifteen thirty, Michelangelo designed the Laurentian library in Florence witch connected to the church of San Lorenzo. He invented new styles such as pilasters wich were thicker at the top. Michelangelo appreciated the males masculine beauty with attracted him emotionally. But Michelangelo’s work it had sensual undertones. His work is the definition of the renaissance male body.

There are a lot of people that think that any relationship with men was strictly plutonic. In my opinion, all artist’s have creativity and most appreciate all life around us it is up to the way most of us interpret it that makes any difference. Michelangelo was a great artist who put passion into most everything he did and it shows in his work that has been awe inspiring for centuries.
